Rods/Reels/Lures
These recommendations are my personal preferences based on past trips to Mexico.
6 1/2 - 7ft med/hvy rods. We use Deep South Fishing Rods.
Baitcasting or spinning reels spooled with 15lb or higher line. I personally use 20lb Trilene XT and 65lb Power Pro braid.
Lures:
Soft Plastics should include the following baits.
- 10.5" Mexican Rattlers
- 8 3/4" Gila Monsters
- 7" Mexisticks, 6" Peppersticks
- 5" El Grande Swimbaits fished on a 1/2-3/4oz football head jig
Crankbaits:
- 16ft or deeper diving cranks such as Rapala DT16 or Norman DD 22
- Lipless cranks such Azuma Shaker-Z
- Top Water plugs such as Azuma Z-Dog
Spinnerbaits:
- 1/2oz to 1 oz spinnerbaits
- Buzz baits
Colors are personal preference and situational. Please call before trip for up to date reports.
Clothing:
3 Sets of clothing to include wet weather gear. Do not be concerned about bringing a bunch of clothes, as the laundry is done for you daily.
Personal items:
Medications, camera and I repeat.....camera. You do not want to miss the photo opportunities on your trip. shaving kits, soap, shampoo, bug spray, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat. Your cell phone normally will work while in Mazatlan, but not dependable at the lodges. I usually bring over the counter items such as: aspirin, allergy meds, sore muscle creme...., and whatever you normally need around home.
Passport and plane tickets.
