Mexico holds a special place in my heart. I have had some great times fishing there with friends and family. I have caught some nice bass throughout the United States, but I have never caught the quality in such high numbers as what you can catch in Mexico. There were trips where we caught several fish from 9-11lbs and we stopped counting 7 lbers after the first day. You really just have to fish it to understand.
There are several lakes in Mexico that rank high on my list for "must fish" lakes. First on my list would be Lake El Salto. El Salto is just an unbelievable fisherery. It has had a few down years, but always bounces back with a vengeance. Other lakes offering a chance at a really big fish include Lake Baccarac, Lake Huites, and to the north, Sugar Lake. Lakes more known for numbers of fish include Lake Mateos, Agua Milpa, Las Blancas, and several others.
There are some extremely nice lodges to visit on these lakes. You have choices from 5 star type resorts to more humble, but efficient lodges. Very seldom will you be dissappointed in any of the lodges. I have included links on this site to a few that I am comfortable with and know the lodge owners personally.
